I have been resisting the idea of starting a blog for years, kept telling my dear friends and family that if I have any interesting stories and thoughts to share, I would rather do it face-to-face, or via a personal mail….. but over the past years, I have been lagging behind in keeping in touch as I move around here and there.
Then the other day, an old friend prompted a question: what if we take the doomsday talk seriously, let’s just entertain the idea that everything would come to an end in 2012, and let’s draft a list of things we most wanted to accomplish (reality check applies) before the deadline.
So we started this little game, kind of like writing a will, but the asset to be distributed is our remaining time — what to do with it, whom to share it with. As I jot down the list on a notepad, to my surprise, it didn’t run on and on, and my usual grumble of wanting to lose weight, quit smoking, or get a better paid job didn’t make it into the list:
1. To catch up with some dear friends whom I’ve not met for years.
2. To go home, but will travel a bit here and there, like revisiting places and people I missed.
3. To make another documentary, about migration/ global nomads.
4. Write a collection of stories, tribute to those kind and not so kind folks I met on the road.
Half the things I noted down have something to do with people whom I care, and they are scattered here and there in different continents, including folks who had offered me goodwill during my travels.
Perhaps, it’s about time I put those fond memories on the road and my gratitude for all the folks out there who have enriched my life into writing. This is a blog dedicated to all those who have touched me, what I hope to share here are mainly their stories, this is my way of remembering and thanking them for enlightening me. (April, 2010)
